Walkden was adjudged to have kicked her opponents after the referee had brought a halt to proceedings, which saw a lengthy TV review go in the favour of Lee, giving the Brit another two-point reduction.

 

“I gave my soul before, I think I got a little bit robbed,” said a tearful Walkden. “I think it was a little bit iffy on the referee. At the end … I got grabbed and crescented but she didn’t get a gam-jeom [penalty] put in.”

He added that it was very unusual for a match of this stature to receive so many penalties.

"To get eight penalties in an Olympic semi-final when you're talking about two of the very best in the world is a little bit unusual. She was almost disqualified.
